BLOODSTONE

"Bloodstone is a powerful healing stone "

The second birthstone for March is bloodstone also known as heliotrope, a darkgreen jasper stone flecked with vivid red spots of iron oxide. Perhaps the appearance of the gem reminded the ancients of the red setting sun, mirrored in the ocean. Wearing a bllodstone is supposed to have healing powers. Even today, finely powdered bloodstone is used as medicine in India. A beautiful example of carved bloodstone with the seal of the German Emperor Rudolf II can be seen at the Louvre in Paris. Bloodstone is mined in India, Australia, and the United States.

Aquamarine the birthstone of March really captures the lucid blue of the oceans beautifully. The name Aquamarine is derived from the Latin word 'aqua' meaning water and 'marina'meaning 'the sea'.
