OPAL

"Ancient Romans have christened the Opal as the 'Anchor of Hope' "

Opal the second birthstone of October. It is considered to bring immense fortune to wearer. The name 'opa' is derived from the Greek word 'Opallo' meaning to see a change (of colour). Opals are gorgeous iridescent gemstones that often manifest multiple colours. The ancient Roman philosopher Pliny described the opal as combining the fire of the ruby, the purple of the amethyst, and the sea-green of the emerald, all shining together in an indescribable union.

Tourmaline is the birthstone of October and is a favourite gemstone amongst jewellery designers, and gem collectors around the world. Since it is available in a wide variety of colours, it is ideally suited to almost anyone's taste. The word tourmaline is believed to have been derived from the Singhalese word 'Toramalli1 , meaning 'something out of the Earth'. Interestingly, Benjamin Franklin used tourmaline in his studies of electricity. Tourmaline is found in many localities including Brazil, Afghanistan, East Africa, and the Unites States.
